Hockey Director – Full Time

The Arbutus Club has been a landmark in Vancouver since 1964. Today, we are a modern recreation complex with first class food and beverage services. Reporting to the Director of Athletics & Recreation, the Hockey Director is a member of the Recreation Services leadership team and leads all aspects of hockey at the Arbutus Club. The Hockey Department includes Minor Hockey, Development programs, Private Lessons, and Adult Hockey Leagues.

Please note that this is a full-time role with flexible hours that will sometimes require working early mornings, evenings and weekends and traveling to games. The Director of Hockey performs on ice coaching duties and these hours vary depending on operational needs.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

· Leading a team of certified hockey coaches, including hiring, training, mentoring, supervising (professional and volunteer).

· Liaise with Hockey Canada, BC Hockey, PCAHA, Arbutus Club Hockey Committees (Minor Hockey, Adult Hockey), staff, and facilities to ensure all programs are following and respecting guidelines, changes, rules, and regulations set forth by respective associations/government bodies and the Club.

· Lead Rep Hockey which includes hockey tryouts, developing seasonal plans and development models for players.

· Oversee each division in the Minor Hockey Association – U7, U9, U11C, U11A, U13C, U15 and U18.

· Work with PCAHA division managers to organize each division (scheduling, ice allocation, team formation).

· Planning, developing, facilitating, and marketing of all programs and special events under the Hockey Department.

· Works with all relevant club stakeholders with ice allocation to meet the needs of all user groups (hockey, figure skating, open hockey/general skating).

· Maintain a welcome and communicative relationship with players, families, and members and ensuring that all members concerns, complaints or inquiries are responded to in a professional and timely manner.

· Leads coaches’ meetings, attends Recreation Services Team leaders meetings and other meetings as required.

· Ensure that all required equipment and jerseys are in place and the rink area is of high standard, well maintained and aesthetically organized.

· Responsible for scheduling and approving payroll for staff within their department

· Accountable for budgets, billing, and contractor invoices

Requirements & Qualifications

The minimum requirements for this role are the following:

· Coach Level 1 Certification.

· Coach Level 2 Certification.

· Development 1 Coaching Certification.

· Respect in Sport Certification.

· Concussion Awareness Certification.

· Hockey Canada Safety Person Certification.

· Current and up to date Criminal Record Check.

· Competed as a player at a high-performance level.

· Experience coaching Rep hockey.

· Excellent leader with strong communication skills who conducts themselves with professionalism and integrity.

· Strong problem solving and conflict management skills.

· Shares our Values & Guiding Principles of Service Passion, Leadership and Stewardship.

The ideal candidate would also have:

· High Performance 1 Coaching Certification.

· Officiating Level 2 Certification.

· Has coached all ages and levels of junior hockey.
