The Bobcats Organization would like to send a sincere thank you to all of our dedicated volunteers. There really is nothing like the spirit of a volunteer. We realize how lucky we are to have volunteers who are passionate about the philosophies, morals and values the team maintains. We know we say it all the time, but without you the team would not exist. This special group of individuals includes directors, game day personnel, sponsors, any fundraising committee members and anyone else dedicating time into our organization.
A special group of people who spend every minute of every day during the hockey season volunteering are our billet families. This group of people take our players into their homes and accept them as members of their family. Each billet has their own stories and memories of relationships that have developed between the player and their family. There are many examples of enduring relationships developing between a billet family and Bobcat player. Quite often you hear of alumni stopping in to their billets home while "passing through town" and billet families contacting alumni or alumni's family when they are "coming out your way". Billeting can be one of the most rewarding experiences as a volunteer in our community.

BILLET OPENINGS

BONNYVILLE PONTIACS

We are looking for families to join our PONTIAC Family
2013 May 10th
IMG_0876.JPG
The Bonnyville PONTIACS ‘Billet Family’ Program plays a major role in our team's success both on and off the ice. The Bonnyville PONTIACS are looking for families in the Bonnyville and Lakeland area who are interested in opening their doors to provide the team's players a “home away from home“ during the season or a temporary home during our Main Camp through the first three weeks in September.
Our players often become just like one of the family. Our players come into our Billet’s lives at an early, impressionable age and leave as young men. They are away from their friends and family and our billets become very important in their lives. The players arrive from all over North America and our Billet families will make a significant difference to our PONTIAC players who have left their families to pursue their goals and dreams.
Our coaching staff and our Director of Player Personnel works extremely hard at identifying young men with not only hockey talent, but solid moral and ethical values as well.
During the day the players are kept busy with practices, video sessions, off-ice skill development, team meetings, individual player meeting and physical conditioning. We have a "Work or School Policy" and during the week, their mornings can consist of work, school or team generated work-outs. Their evenings can consist of involvement in the community, volunteering the time, league games, homework or just enjoying some quite time alone with their billet families or teammates. Our players have an extremely structured and committed schedule.
Billeting is a tremendous experience in which you can share in a young person’s goals and dreams and develop a lifelong connection with a player from all around the province and North America. The rewards can be immeasurable. In fact, many families still keep in contact with their players as they move through the ranks of college and professional hockey many years later.
Our billet families will receive remuneration in the amount of $400.00 per month per player and they will also receive 2 regular season tickets for home games and invitations to team events.
Please contact the Bonnyville PONTIACS Office for more information. (780) 826-2893.

BROOKS BANDITS

Every year, the Brooks Bandits Hockey Club welcomes young men from around North America into our city.  These players range from 16 to 20 years old and their stay in our city can last anywhere from one day to five years!
When these young men become a member of the Brooks Bandits Hockey Club, they do not live on their own and require accomodations.  This is where the billet family becomes very important as each player is placed in a home in the local community.  The billet family offers a place to sleep, support, food and a positive environment for a young man.
Billeting can be a very exciting and rewarding experience for all of those willing to open up their homes to dedicated hockey players.  Many families who have billeted in the past usually look back at their experience with fond memories. In fact, many families still stay in touch with players they had billeted in the past as they move through the University and Professional ranks.
Message from the Coach & General Manager, Ryan Papaioannou:
"As we prepare for another season of Bandits Hockey our expectations are lofty as always.  We need to replicate the success of last season and that starts with the homes our players live in.  Our players have done a fantastic job of putting our program on the map as a premier choice for a place to play Junior Hockey.  They have only been able to do this with the support of their billet families, so to returning familes, THANK YOU!  To any incoming billet families I wish the best experience upon you and hope you will enjoy becoming an integral part of our hockey team.
Without billets we would not operate at the level we do.  Your efforts to house, feed and support our players are not unnoticed and will alway be appreciated by the Coaching Staff and Players."
If you are interested in receiving more information on being a billet family please contact Leah Palmer, Billet Coordinator, at 403.363.9205.

CAMROSE KODIAKS

Interested in becoming a Kodiak host family? Call the office at 780-679-2603.
It is a great way to make a life long friend! Players need a good home and a family when they move away from home and they are great role models in the community and great with kids!
You receive season tickets for billeting and an honorarium for keeping these young men. They range from 16 to 20 years of age and they go to school (high school or University) or they work part time.

The Canmore Eagles are always in need for a nice home for some of our visiting hockey players to reside during the AJHL hockey season.

FORT MCMURRAY OIL BARONS
A message from our billet coordinator
Greetings !
And thank you for taking an interest in becoming a billet family. Billets play a vital role in the success of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. Without them, our team would not be able to operate as most of the boys that play on the team are from out of town. Therefore, we are always looking for new billet families.
Billeting can be a very exciting and rewarding experience for all those willing to open up their homes to dedicated players of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. Many families who have billeted in the past usually look back at their experience with fond memories. In fact, the majority still keep in contact with the players that lived with them as they move on in life, either through professional hockey or another career choice.
Whether you are new or a long time resident of Fort McMurray, billeting is a great way to meet people. You will become as involved with the hockey organization as you want to be. Many billets attend all the home games and subsequently, you will find them after the game waiting for "their boys" in the lobby of the Casman Centre. This is usually when you get a chance to meet with the other billet families.
Each billet family is paid a monthly amount of $500.00 per player (in addition to receiving milk & bread coupons) to house the player in their home. You would be responsible to provide each boy at least one good meal and have the food available so they could cook the other meals themselves. Chores around the house are usually discussed between each player and billet family. As well, each family is given two season tickets and two playoff tickets per player billeted.
If billeting is something you would be interested in please contact the Oil Barons office:
Phone: (780) 743 - 5509 ext. 0 Email: admin@oilbarons.com
I would be more than happy to discuss the aspects of billeting with you and hopefully welcome you to the Oil Barons family.
Sincerely,
Shannon Nash
Billet Coordinator

GRANDE PRAIRIE STORM
The Grande Prairie Storm relies on the generosity of local residents to "adopt" Storm players every season.
Billet families are paid a monthly fee and receive Storm season tickets for the family where the player resides.
All billet families must undergo an RCMP police check and all players are expected to follow house and team rules when at a billet home.
Every year the Storm hosts a "family weekend" where billet families and Storm player families are invited to social functions and other events based around a Storm home weekend of games.
Anyone interested in being a billet can contact billet co-ordinators Michael Arend at
meister.michael.arend@gmail.com or Kelly Coulter at kcoulter@gprc.ab.ca

OLDS GRIZZLYS
The Olds Grizzlys are always looking for families in the local Olds area who are interested in opening their doors and give the team's players a home away from home during the season.   Without host families the hockey club would be hard pressed to succeed. These local families open up their homes allowing our players to join their families. Our billets spend a great deal of time, energy, and commitment to ensure that our players are able to live comfortably and are able to compete each night.  Since Grizzlys players range in age from 16 - 20, the billet families act as surrogate parents for the young men during hockey season while the players are away from home. Billeting can be a very exciting and rewarding experience for all those willing to open up their homes to dedicated players of the Grizzlys organization. Many families who have billeted in the past usually look back at their experience with fond memories. In fact, many families still keep in contact with their players as they move through the ranks of college and professional hockey.  The team's billeting coordinator matches each player's personality and backgrounds with quality billet homes. Furthermore, each potential billet is carefully screened and presented with our team's expectations of the billet family. Personal visits are done throughout the season to ensure that both player and billet family are meeting those expectations and guidelines.  All players are to remember that their billets are there new home away from home and are expected to follow and adhere to the general rules and guidelines set forth by the hockey club. Respect for the billet family and their household is a priority and should not be taken for granted.  To qualify as a billet, families are required to provide a player with his own room throughout the season, and provide the player with his meals. In exchange, the families receive a stipend to help pay for groceries, discounted tickets to home games, and invitations to team events.  However, in reality not every player/family match will be met with un-denying success. Sometimes chemistry and/or expectations might be lacking to continue on with the relationship in a positive manner for one or both parties. When this happens, we will make our best attempt towards making the necessary changes to ensure everyone is happy and comfortable with their arrangements.  For more information feel free to contact Jill Lawn at 403-556-1121.
